BRAIN Initiative
The BRAIN (Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies) Initiative was launched in 2013 as an ambitious research program designed to revolutionize understanding of the human brain. The BRAIN Initiative aims to help researchers uncover the mysteries of brain disorders, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, depression, and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Several federal agencies, foundations, private research institutions, and companies are supporting the initiative.
A core principle of the BRAIN Initiative is to establish platforms for sharing data because “public, integrated repositories for datasets and data analysis tools, with an emphasis on ready accessibility and effective central maintenance, will have immense value.”
